The Town of Harrison does not currently have an Independence Day Celebration and/or Fireworks Celebration but other surrounding communities have 4th of July Celebrations and Fireworks. Last year as many Harrison residents will recall the Town of Harrison had a 4th of July CONCACAF Gold Cup Soccer Doubleheader at the Red Bulls Arena with four International Teams. This year there is no soccer game at Red Bull Arena on July 4th. The Red Bulls Arena’s management promised, after public outcry, not to hold an international game on July 4th ever again.

This is not a complete list of 4th of July Celebrations and Fireworks but these are local enough that Harrison residents can travel to.

The Last Town of Harrison Fireworks

The last time the Town of Harrison celebrated with Fireworks was at one of the Harrison Fest Street Festivals where then Councilman Anselmo Millan (Councilman Millan) had high-tech and safe fireworks at the Library Park.

Councilman Millan, as President of Harrison Fest, initially got opposition to close off Harrison Avenue between 1st Street and Davis Avenue for a Grand Parade and Street Festival as well as for the Fireworks.  Closing Harrison Avenue created a Pedestrian Mall with live performances by musicians on Stage folkloric dancing groups and Elvis and Michael Jackson (impersonators) performing.  Food Vendors, craft vendors, and local merchants displayed and sold their merchandise. Families gathered for a good time.

The Fireworks display put the exclamation point at the end of the festivities and a long day with a Grand Parade, Street Festival on Harrison Avenue, and a lot of happy residents and visitors.  People talk about the Red Bulls Arena putting Harrison on the map but Harrison Fest had a lot to do with it too. It became a Statewide event with diverse ethnic and cultural groups coming from New Jersey and New York.

There has not been a Harrison Fest since the last one in 2017 seven years since Harrison Mayor James Fife canceled Harrison Fest 2018 because then Councilman Anselmo MIllan, the founder and President of Harrison Fest, ran for Mayor in the 2018 Democratic Primary.  It was a retaliatory move by Mayor Fife among others that is part of a Federal Lawsuit currently pending in the District Court of New Jersey in Newark NJ.
