CRC Portuguese Club Dinner Celebration Sun. May 5th & Sat. May 18 2024

This May, the Centro Romeu Cascaes (CRC) Portuguese American Community Center is set to host two significant events that highlight the spirit of community and tradition within the Portuguese-American community in Harrison, NJ.

Honoring Rosa and João Ventura: A Luncheon to Remember

First on the agenda is a special luncheon honoring Rosa and João Ventura, long-time members who have dedicated over 30 years to various Portuguese organizations, including the CRC itself, the Portuguese Continental Union (Luso-American Financial), and the first Portuguese Language School of Harrison. This celebration will take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024, starting at 1 p.m. at the CRC headquarters located at 14 No. Frank E. Rodgers Blvd.

The event will feature a buffet-style dinner catered by Valencia Restaurant, with DJ Pires providing musical entertainment. While water and soda are included in the ticket price of $55.00, wine, beer, and sangria will be available for an additional charge. This luncheon not only serves to honor the Venturas for their unwavering commitment and service but also strengthens the bonds within the community. Festa de Socio: A Festival of Membership and Gratitude

Following the luncheon, the CRC will host its annual "Festa de Socio" (Members Festival) on Saturday, May 18, 2024. This day-long event, running from 12 noon to 9 p.m., provides an excellent opportunity for the Directors of CRC to express their gratitude towards members for their ongoing support and dedication. It also allows members to update their club dues while enjoying a festive afternoon.

The highlight of the festival will be a traditional Portuguese Pig Roast, offering attendees roasted pig, French fries, and salad at no cost, although drinks will be sold separately. During the event, staff will be available to renew memberships or accept new member applications. Additionally, members can participate in a raffle to support the CRC’s Building Improvement Fundraiser. Prizes include $1,000 for the first place, two tickets to a 2024-2025 season NJ Devils vs. Rangers game for the second place, and a $150 gift certificate to the Pic-Nic Restaurant for the third place, with the drawing scheduled for Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Both events, held at the CRC’s headquarters, not only celebrate the rich heritage and vibrant community spirit of the Portuguese-American community in Harrison but also strengthen the foundation for future cultural engagements and community support.

In addition, mark your calendar for the 2024 Harrison Portugal Day weekend scheduled for the weekend of June 1, 2024, with events throughout the weekend including a Portuguese Flag raising ceremony at the Harrison Town Hall located at 318 Harrison Avenue on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 10 a.m. followed by a continued Portugal Day Festival including barbecued Sardines, Chicken, and Pork made by members who are masters of barbecuing all three.
