In a deeply moving ceremony held at the Harrison Fire Department headquarters on Saturday, October 12, 2024, the Harrison Firemen’s Mutual Benevolent Association and the local firefighting community gathered to honor Firefighter Vincent Doffont, who tragically passed away following a training exercise. The solemn event was attended by Doffont’s widow, children, and his fellow firefighters, who unveiled a commemorative plaque that now stands permanently affixed to the station’s wall, symbolizing Doffont’s valor and dedication.

The plaque, inscribed with heartfelt words, reads: “Dedicated to the Memory of Firefighter Vincent Doffont, as a tribute to his valor and unselfish dedication to his community and country. He lost his life in the line of duty at 37 Years of Age on March 19, 2022.” Alongside these words, the emblem of the United States Marine Corps is displayed, paying homage to Doffont’s distinguished service in the Marine Corps, where he served in combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Firefighter Vincent Doffont was not only a committed member of the Harrison Fire Department for five years but also a Marine veteran decorated with honors including the Purple Heart, Naval Sea Service, and National Defense Ribbon. Known among his peers and community for his selflessness and bravery, Doffont also had a prior career in law enforcement as a Hudson County Sheriff and Harrison Police Officer. His passing has left an irreplaceable void in the department and community, especially for his family, friends, and those he served.

In the spirit of commemorating Doffont’s legacy, Harrison’s community has established ongoing support efforts. The Vincent Doffont Children’s College Fund, a GoFundMe initiative, has been set up by the Harrison Fire Department to help secure the future education of Doffont’s two young children. Contributions from community members and supporters continue to be encouraged, showing the town’s solidarity with Doffont’s family.

Each March, the community further celebrates his legacy through the Vincent Doffont Annual 5K Run, an event that gathers locals, firefighters, and supporters in Doffont’s memory. Proceeds from the event contribute directly to the college fund for his children, ensuring Doffont’s commitment to education and community care extends well beyond his lifetime.

Doffont’s commitment to others was evident from a young age, as echoed in countless online tributes and memories shared by those who knew him. His decision to serve his country and town reflects the unwavering dedication of a man who valued service above all. Through their words and actions, Harrison’s firefighters, residents, and family members continue to embody his spirit of resilience and commitment.

Vincent Doffont’s life stands as a beacon of sacrifice and bravery, reminding us of the selflessness inherent in those who serve.
