First Two Town Meetings Canceled Important Budget Meeting on 5/16/2023
May 08, 2023The Town of Harrison, New Jersey is a vibrant community with a rich history and a promising future. As with any municipality, one of the most important functions of the local government is to hold public meetings where residents can voice their concerns, ask questions, and participate in the decision-making process. This month the first two meetings of the Town of Harrison were canceled.
Canceled Meetings
Firstly, the Mayor and Council Meeting that was originally scheduled for Tuesday, May 2, 2023, was canceled. This meeting is typically held on the first and third Tuesday of each month, and it serves as an opportunity for residents to ask questions of the mayor and council members, as well as to voice their concerns on various issues affecting the town. The Mayor & Council meetings are usually very short and agenda items are voted on without much discussion. It is unclear at this time why the meeting was canceled, but residents are encouraged to attend the next meeting to be held next week. Similarly, the Harrison Redevelopment Agency (HRA) Meeting that was scheduled for Monday, May 8, 2023, was canceled. The redevelopment meeting focuses on the Harrison Redevelopment Zone which is the former industrial area of the Town of Harrison which is now completely zoned residential. As with the Mayor and Council Meeting, it is unclear why this meeting was canceled. The HRA has another meeting scheduled for Monday, May 22, 2023. Upcoming Meetings
Despite these cancellations, residents can still participate in two important meetings that are scheduled to take place later in May. On Monday, May 15, 2023, the Harrison Planning Board is scheduled to meet in person at 4:45 p.m. The planning board is responsible for reviewing and approving development plans and zoning changes, among other things. This meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about upcoming development projects in the town and to voice their concerns about any potential issues.
The Harrison Zoning Board of Adjustment is also scheduled to meet on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 6:15 p.m. via Zoom. This meeting will be held in person, and it will focus on issues related to zoning and land use variances. Residents who are interested in learning more about zoning regulations in Harrison or who have concerns about specific development projects should attend this meeting.
Town of Harrison Budget An Important Meeting to Attend
Finally, the Mayor and Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 6:15 p.m. in person. This meeting will include the 2023 Town of Harrison Budget hearing, among other items on the agenda that has yet to be published. The budget hearing is an important opportunity for residents to learn more about the town's financial situation and to voice their concerns about how taxpayer dollars are being spent.
