Gotham FC to Face Utah Royals @ Red Bull Arena Sun. Sept. 22, 2024

The NJ/NY Gotham FC (Gotham FC) women’s soccer team is set to take on the Utah Royals on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Red Bull Arena. This National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) matchup is the second game of a two-game weekend at the Harrison NJ venue, following Saturday’s clash between the New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United FC. As is typical for major events at Red Bull Arena, the Harrison Police Department is expected to issue a Traffic and Parking Bulletin ahead of the game, advising fans and residents to plan accordingly. 

About the Utah Royals 

The Utah Royals, an esteemed team in the NWSL, were established in 2017. After a brief hiatus following the 2020 season, the club rejoined the NWSL in 2024 with renewed energy and a strong roster of international and domestic players. The Utah Royals play their home games at America First Field in Sandy, Utah, a premier stadium located just south of Salt Lake City. The venue holds a capacity of 20,213 fans, creating an atmosphere for the Royals’ home matches similar to that of the Red Bull Arena.

Gotham FC’s Background 

Gotham FC, one of the original teams in the NWSL, has built a reputation for consistent performance and dynamic play. Originally founded as Sky Blue FC in 2008, the club rebranded as Gotham FC in 2021 to better reflect its roots in the New York and New Jersey area. The team boasts a talented roster that includes several U.S. Women's National Team stars, and they remain a dominant presence in the league. 

Standings and Playoff Push 

As the 2024 NWSL season nears its conclusion, Gotham FC and the Utah Royals stand on the opposite side of the NWSL standings. Gotham FC currently sits in the top half of the league standings, 4^th in the standings, and is pushing for a high playoff seed. Meanwhile, the Utah Royals, in their first season back in the league, are 13^th in the standings, battling to make the most of their season with a trip to the East Coast. 

Game Day at Red Bull Arena 

With Sunday’s matchup between Gotham FC and the Utah Royals marking the second game of a busy weekend at Red Bull Arena, fans can expect an energetic atmosphere. The New York Red Bulls will host Atlanta United on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Major League Soccer action. As a result, traffic around the stadium will impact residents’ weekend plans back to back.
