Gotham FC v Tigres Femenil

The NJ/NY Gotham FC women’s soccer team is set to face off against Tigres UANL Femenil in a much-anticipated Group A match of the CONCACAF Women’s Championship Cup on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 8 p.m. The game will take place at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, where both teams will vie for the top position in Group A. This clash brings together the reigning NWSL champions, Gotham FC, and Tigres, the six-time champions of Liga MX Femenil, promising fans an exciting evening of high-stakes competition.

Gotham FC was established in 2006 and plays its home games at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. As one of the founding clubs of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), Gotham FC has made significant strides in women’s soccer, recently claiming the title of NWSL Champions. The team boasts a powerful lineup, including standout forward Lynn Williams, who recently made history by scoring the fastest hat-trick in the CONCACAF W Champions. Gotham FC comes into this game riding high on their record-breaking 13-goal performance in Jamaica.

On the other side of the pitch, Tigres UANL Femenil was founded in 2017 as part of Mexico’s Liga MX Femenil. The team, also known as "Las Amazonas," plays its home games at the Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León. Tigres Femenil has quickly become one of the top teams in the league, winning six championships in just seven years. In their last match, Tigres showcased their dominance by defeating Costa Rica’s LD Alajuelense, with Ana Dias scoring her second goal of the group stage, helping secure the team’s spot in the final round of the W Champions Cup.

The CONCACAF Women’s Championship Cup, formed in 2024, was created to provide a competitive platform for top women’s club teams across North and Central America. The inaugural W Champions Cup features teams from the NWSL, Liga MX Femenil, and other elite clubs from the CONCACAF region, allowing them to compete for the regional title. The tournament aims to elevate women’s soccer by showcasing the talents and strengths of the best teams from each league.

As the game is scheduled for a weeknight, the Harrison Police Department is expected to issue a traffic advisory. The influx of fans is likely to coincide with rush hour traffic along Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard, a major thoroughfare in Harrison, NJ. Fans attending the game are advised to plan accordingly, as the overlap with evening traffic could lead to delays around Red Bull Arena. The traffic bulletin will guide fans and local commuters to navigate the congestion and ensure a smooth traffic flow before and after the game.
