Harrison East Newark Elks Lodge & Town Hold 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
Sep 10, 2024In the golden glow of the setting sun on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the Town of Harrison will unite in remembrance and reflection at a special 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. Organized by the Harrison East Newark Elks Lodge 2326, in coordination with the Town of Harrison, this solemn event will take place at 6 p.m. in Library Park, on the northeastern corner, in front of the Harrison 9/11 Memorial on Harrison Avenue between Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. and South 5th Street.
The Harrison 9/11 Memorial is a powerful symbol of strength and resilience. It features one of the first iron beams recovered from the ruins of the World Trade Center Twin Towers. This raw iron, a fitting tribute to Harrison's industrial history, is complemented by a tranquil waterfall, representing the flow of time, healing, and unity. Beside the beam rests an engraved marker, inviting visitors to pause and reflect on the lives lost during the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
One life that will be especially remembered during this ceremony is that of Fabian Soto, a 31-year-old Harrison resident who tragically lost his life in the attack. Fabian was working as a window washer at the World Trade Center when the towers fell. The memorial service will honor his memory, along with the thousands of innocent lives taken on that fateful day. Fabian's legacy, like many others, remains etched in the hearts of the Harrison community.
The ceremony, designed to bring the community together in shared grief and healing, is open to the public. The Harrison East Newark Elks encourage everyone to come and participate in this meaningful event, standing side by side in unity, remembering the past, and finding hope for the future.
For those seeking to learn more about the Harrison 9/11 Memorial and the life of Fabian Soto, a previous article on Your Harrison, titled Harrison NJ 9/11 Memorial, offers a detailed account of the memorial’s history and its significance to the town. The article also suggests a possible addition to the memorial, noting that Fabian Soto’s name does not yet appear on the engraved marker. A future initiative may seek to formally include his name, ensuring that his memory remains permanently honored within the town’s cherished monument.
In these moments of remembrance, the Harrison community invites everyone to share their thoughts, feelings, and tributes on the Your Harrison Discussion Board. As we gather, let us reflect on the lives lost, celebrate their spirit, and find comfort in the strength of our shared memories.
The 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Library Park will serve as a moment to honor the lives of Fabian Soto and others who perished on that day. It is a poignant reminder that though time moves forward, the memory of those who were lost will forever remain in the hearts of Harrison residents.
