The Town of Harrison will hold its rescheduled annual Mayor & Council Reorganization Meeting on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 6:15 p.m. The meeting will occur in the Mayor's Conference Room on the Third Floor of Harrison Town Hall.

Meeting Agenda Overview:

  1. Reorganization of Mayor and Council:
    • The reorganization will establish council roles and responsibilities for 2025.
  2. Legal Resolutions:
    • A series of resolutions will be addressed, including the designation of standing committees, adoption of rules and regulations for the year, updates to the Local Public Contracts Law, and designations for the town’s depositories and official newspapers.
  3. Personnel Appointments:
    • Appointments include Albert J. Cifelli as Public Defender, Robert Gerris as Town Historian, and various appointments to the Planning Board.
  4. Financial Resolutions:
    • The council will address the 2025 financial management plans, including cash management, tax interest authorization, and accelerated tax sale approval. Additionally, adjustments from the 2024 budget will be authorized.
  5. Public Safety and Community Services:
    • Resolutions will confirm the hiring of new police officers and re-appoint special law enforcement officers.
  6. Public Comment:
    • Residents of Harrison will have the opportunity to address the council with concerns or comments regarding town governance.

Key Resolutions:

  • Transportation and Infrastructure: The council will review a grant application for improving Harrison’s streets, specifically North 2nd Street, South 2nd Street, and Kingsland Avenue from Hamilton St. to Central Avenue.
  • Affordable Housing: A crucial resolution will accept the Fourth Round Affordable Housing numbers which outline the town’s obligations for providing affordable housing options.
