Jul 22, 2024In an ongoing effort to strengthen the bond between the police force and the residents of Harrison, the Harrison Police Department's Community Policing Unit is hosting a Pizza With A Cop event on Monday, July 22, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This event will take place at the courts located at Wilhelm and 6th Street, right by the Harrison Fire Department Headquarters.
Under Harrison Police Chief David Strumolo leadership the Pizza With A Cop event, now in its third year, continues to provide a convivial atmosphere where attendees can enjoy complimentary pizza and beverages while engaging with local law enforcement officers. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of Community Policing, as defined by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs. Community Policing is a collaborative effort between the police and the community to identify and address local issues. It empowers residents to become active partners in enhancing neighborhood safety and quality of life.
The Harrison Police Department has a long-standing tradition of community engagement. The concept of Community Policing is deeply embedded in the department's ethos, tracing back to the efforts of retired Deputy Chief Patrick Minutillo in the 1990s and 2000s. During this period, Harrison Police Officers participated in various community activities, including Naturalization Drives, which assisted residents in their pursuit of United States Citizenship. These events, supported by notable community organizations such as the Harrison Fest Committee and the Centro Romeu Cascaes Portuguese American Community Center of Harrison NJ, facilitated the fingerprinting process and provided volunteers to help with application completion.
Such initiatives have transformed interactions between police officers and residents, fostering a sense of community and cooperation. The ongoing efforts of the Community Policing Unit, led by Chief Strumolo, continue to nurture these relationships, demonstrating the department's commitment to a progressive approach to law enforcement.
The Harrison community extends its heartfelt appreciation to Chief Strumolo and the officers of the Community Policing Unit for their dedication to building a close-knit and supportive community. Events like Pizza With A Cop not only provide an opportunity for residents to meet their local officers but also showcase the positive outcomes of such community-centric policing efforts.
Residents of Harrison are encouraged to attend this event, enjoy some pizza, and get to know the officers who work tirelessly to keep the Town of Harrison community safe.
