Harrison Police Dept. Hosts National Night Out on Tues. Aug. 6, 2024
Aug 02, 2024The Harrison Police Department is set to host the annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will take place at the Harrison Library Park, located between South Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. and North 5th Street along Harrison Avenue.
National Night Out, a nationwide initiative, is designed to foster relationships between law enforcement and the community, promote neighborhood camaraderie, and enhance the sense of community safety. Since its inception in 1984, the event has grown to include over 16,000 communities across the United States, with millions of citizens participating each year. The neighboring Borough of East Newark Police Department and the Town of Kearny Police Department will also be holding their own National Night Out gatherings in their respective communities.
The origins of National Night Out trace back to the efforts of the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), which sought to bring together neighbors and police under positive circumstances. The idea was to create an environment where citizens and law enforcement could interact in a friendly, informal setting, building trust and cooperation.
This year’s National Night Out in Harrison promises to be a memorable evening filled with food, fun activities, and face painting. The Harrison Police Department has worked diligently to organize the event, ensuring that it caters to all ages and interests. In addition to the activities, local merchants have been invited to participate, offering a unique opportunity for the community to engage with local businesses and support the town's economy.
Harrison Police Chief, David Strumolo, emphasized the importance of this event in strengthening the bond between the police force and the community. The Harrison Police Department has also held Community meetings in various apartment buildings in the Harrison Redevelopment Zone and Pizza With A Cop events in the community.
The event will feature a variety of activities designed to entertain and engage families. From carnival games to interactive demonstrations, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Local food vendors will provide a delicious array of treats, ensuring that no one goes hungry.
Face painting, always a hit with the younger attendees, will add a splash of color and creativity to the evening. Volunteers from the community will join forces with police officers to make sure every child leaves with a smile.
In inviting local merchants to participate, the Harrison Police Department aims to highlight the vibrant business community that contributes to the town’s unique character. Residents will have the chance to learn more about the goods and services offered by these businesses, fostering a greater sense of local pride and economic support.
Mark your calendars and join your neighbors for a night of fun, food, and community spirit. The Harrison Police Department looks forward to seeing everyone at the Harrison Library Park on August 6th for what promises to be an unforgettable National Night Out.
