Jul 27, 2024In a continued effort to foster stronger relationships between law enforcement and the community, the Harrison Police Department's Community Policing Unit is hosting a "Pizza With A Cop" event on Monday, July 29, 2024. This gathering will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Harrison Police Driveway, located behind the Harrison Town Hall at 323 Cleveland Avenue, Harrison, NJ.
This event marks the second in a series organized by the Community Policing Unit under the leadership of Harrison Police Chief David Strumolo. Now in its third year, the "Pizza With A Cop" initiative has become a beloved tradition, offering a friendly environment where residents can enjoy complimentary pizza and beverages while engaging in meaningful conversations with their local police officers.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to implement Community Policing, a strategy promoted by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs. This approach involves a collaborative partnership between police and the community to identify and address local issues, empowering residents to take an active role in enhancing neighborhood safety and quality of life.
The Harrison Police Department has a rich history of community engagement, rooted in the efforts of retired Deputy Chief Patrick Minutillo in the 1990s and 2000s. During that period, the department participated in numerous community activities, including Naturalization Drives, assisting residents in their pursuit of United States citizenship. These events were supported by community organizations such as the Harrison Fest Committee and the Centro Romeu Cascaes Portuguese American Community Center of Harrison, NJ.
These initiatives have significantly transformed the interaction between police officers and residents, fostering a sense of community and cooperation. Under Chief Strumolo's guidance, the Community Policing Unit continues to build on this legacy, emphasizing a progressive approach to law enforcement that prioritizes community relations.
The Harrison community is invited to attend the upcoming "Pizza With A Cop" event, meet the officers dedicated to keeping the town safe, and enjoy a slice of pizza. This event is not only an opportunity to strengthen community ties but also a testament to the positive outcomes of community-centric policing efforts.
The residents of Harrison extend their heartfelt appreciation to Chief Strumolo and the officers of the Community Policing Unit for their unwavering commitment to fostering a close-knit and supportive community. Events like "Pizza With A Cop" highlight the benefits of such initiatives, showcasing the importance of building strong, trust-based relationships between law enforcement and the community they serve.
