Harrison Police Host Pizza With A Cop @Kingsland Courts Mon.Aug. 12/24
Aug 12, 2024In a continued effort to foster strong relationships between the police force and the local community, the Harrison Police Department's Community Policing Unit is hosting its third Pizza With A Cop event on Monday, August 12, 2024. The event is scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kingsland Courts, located at 740 William Street, between William Street and Cross Street in Harrison, NJ. It is close to the Harison High School on Kingsland Avenue.
Under the leadership of Harrison Police Chief David Strumolo, the Pizza With A Cop initiative has become a popular tradition in the town. This event offers residents a relaxed and informal environment where they can enjoy complimentary pizza and beverages while engaging in meaningful conversations with local law enforcement officers. The initiative reflects the broader goals of Community Policing, which emphasizes collaboration between the police and the community to identify and address local issues, ultimately enhancing neighborhood safety and quality of life.
The Harrison Police Department has a rich history of community engagement, with the concept of Community Policing deeply embedded in its ethos. This tradition dates back to the efforts of retired Deputy Chief Patrick Minutillo in the 1990s and 2000s, when Harrison Police Officers actively participated in community activities, such as Naturalization Drives, to assist residents in their pursuit of U.S. citizenship. These events, supported by community organizations like the Harrison Fest Committee and the Centro Romeu Cascaes Portuguese American Community Center, played a significant role in transforming interactions between police officers and residents, fostering a sense of community and cooperation.
The ongoing efforts of the Community Policing Unit, led by Chief Strumolo, continue to build upon this legacy, demonstrating the department's commitment to a progressive approach to law enforcement. Despite the recent cancellation of the National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, due to a torrential rainstorm, the Pizza With A Cop event offers residents another opportunity to connect with their local officers in a positive and welcoming setting.
The Harrison community extends its heartfelt appreciation to Chief Strumolo and the officers of the Community Policing Unit for their dedication to building a close-knit and supportive community. Events like "Pizza With A Cop" not only provide an opportunity for residents to meet the officers who work tirelessly to keep the town safe but also highlight the positive outcomes of community-centric policing efforts.
Residents of Harrison are encouraged to attend this event, enjoy some pizza, and get to know the officers who serve their community.
