Harrison Portugal Day 2023: Saturday/Sunday June 3rd & 4th

The lively two-day event will feature a multitude of traditional Portuguese activities, from delectable cuisine to cultural performances and religious observances, providing a thrilling opportunity for attendees to explore and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of Portugal
On both Saturday, June 3rd, and Sunday, June 4th, dedicated volunteers from Centro Romeu Cascaes will be hosting festivities at their community center, conveniently located at 14 North Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. in Harrison, NJ. The center invites everyone, from those of Portuguese descent to culture enthusiasts and curious locals, to join in this joyous celebration.

Attendees can look forward to savoring traditional Portuguese Barbecue Chicken, Barbecued Sardines (referred to as 'the super vitamin' because of its health benefits), and Portuguese Febras, which consist of pork steaks with peppers served on a Portuguese Roll. Delicious. The culinary delights don't stop there - they will be perfectly paired with Sangria and Beer, with both on-tap and bottled options available, poured into cups for easy enjoyment. Soft Drinks and Water will also be available to keep guests refreshed throughout the festivities.

On Sunday, the celebration will commence with a special Portugal Day Mass in Portuguese at the Holy Cross Church in Harrison at 9 a.m. This will be followed by a Flag Raising Ceremony at the Harrison Town Hall at 10 a.m., symbolically marking the beginning of the Portugal Day celebrations.
The sumptuous Barbecue is scheduled from Noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and Noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, providing ample time for visitors to indulge in the flavorsome offerings. DJ Jose Trula will be on deck from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, spinning tunes that promise to get everyone moving.
Youth Group from Rancho Camponeses Do Minho dance in front of Harrison Town Hall
Sunday's entertainment will be taken up a notch with performances by a folkloric group, featuring traditional Rancho dancing, by the Rancho Camponese do Minho, following the Flag Raising Ceremony. The dance performances will add a vibrant, rhythmic dimension to the celebrations, demonstrating the heart and soul of Portuguese culture.
On Sunday after the flag-raising ceremony, students of Centro Romeu Cascaes Portuguese School will be showcasing their talents with an Art Exhibit at the community center following Sunday's flag-raising ceremony. This will give visitors a chance to appreciate the young talents honing their art and language skills at the center's school. Coffee and donuts will be served.
Adding to the excitement, there will be a fundraising Raffle with tickets for sale throughout the weekend. The lucky draw will take place at 5 p.m. on Sunday, with the winner not required to be present to claim their prizes. This raffle serves a dual purpose - offering guests a chance to win exciting prizes while also supporting the valuable work of the community center.
In addition to hosting celebrations, the Centro Romeu Cascaes provides an invaluable resource to the community with a Portuguese School for children to learn the Portuguese language and culture. These students will also be participating in various cultural activities during the Harrison Portugal Day 2023 celebrations.
