Harrison Riverfront District Set to Welcome New Culinary Additions
Jan 24, 2025The culinary landscape of Harrison's burgeoning Riverbend District is poised for a significant boost with the introduction of Keepers and Keepers Coffee, two new ventures from Episcope Hospitality, slated to open in spring 2025. These establishments aim to become a central hub for the neighborhood, particularly at The Wyldes, a luxurious new addition to the district's residential offerings.
Located in the heart of the Riverbend District, Keepers and Keepers Coffee will occupy the street-level retail space of The Wyldes, situated strategically across from the Sports Illustrated Stadium (the new name of the Red Bull Arena) and a short walk from the Harrison PATH station. This placement is expected to draw both residents and daily commuters, contributing to the area’s vibrant community atmosphere. The venues promise to offer everything from morning coffees and pastries to gourmet burgers and craft cocktails, catering to a diverse clientele.
More Than Just A Restaurant
Daniel Orrison, an Episcope Hospitality partner, defines Keepers as "more than just a restaurant—it's a community hub." This vision aligns closely with the ethos of Advance Realty Investors, the project's developers, who are dedicated to transforming the Riverbend District into a thriving residential and recreational enclave. "Partnering with a respected name like Episcope Hospitality allows us to offer an exceptional culinary experience that enriches the neighborhood and elevates its appeal," said Dan Cocoziello, Principal and COO of Advance Realty.
Keepers & Keepers Coffee
The arrival of Keepers and Keepers Coffee is anticipated to enhance the lifestyle offerings in the Riverbend District, which is already home to several contemporary residential properties like Steel Works and Cobalt Lofts. The area is designed to be pedestrian-friendly and is integrated with a pocket park in the neighborhood.
The Black Cloud
However, the proposed EPA project to build an Open Air Toxic Sludge plant at the nearby PSE&G site casts a shadow over these developments. The project, which is situated close to several residential buildings including Steelworks, Vermella Harrison, and The Cobalt Lofts, has been met with opposition from community members but the Town of Harrison’s Mayor James Fife and Councilman and Harrison Public School’s Personnel Director James Doran are supporting EPA’s plan the surprise of residents who fear it could undermine the residential appeal of the area and pose health risks.
Residents and stakeholders in Harrison are calling for a reassessment of the EPA's plans, emphasizing the need to maintain the neighborhood's residential character and burgeoning growth. The juxtaposition of a booming residential hub with environmental concerns presents a complex challenge for Harrison, balancing economic development and environmental safety.
As Keepers prepares to open its doors in 2025, all eyes will be on how these contrasting dynamics play out, shaping the future of Harrison's Riverfront District. The community remains hopeful that the appeal of new developments and the ongoing commitment to a vibrant social and economic environment will outweigh the potential drawbacks of the EPA’s controversial plan.
