Hudson County Clerk Mobile Outreach Unit In Harrison Wed 1/8/2024

Dec 20, 2024
Harrison NJ Senior Citizen Center

Hudson County residents looking to obtain or renew their passports and county identification cards will have the convenience of the Hudson County Clerk's Mobile Outreach Unit right in their neighborhood. Scheduled for January 8, 2025, the outreach unit, led by County Clerk E. Junior Maldonado, will be stationed at the Harrison Senior Center at 221 Harrison Avenue, Harrison, NJ.

The mobile unit aims to streamline the often cumbersome bureaucratic process, offering services from 10 AM to 2 PM. Residents can come to the center to apply for or renew their United States Passports and County Identification Cards. To ensure a smooth application process, residents are required to bring several specific documents:

For a U.S. Passport application:

  1. Proof of U.S. Citizenship: A Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate.
  2. Proof of Identity: A current government-issued identification card. A Driver’s License is the number one choice for meeting the government-issued identification card requirement.
  3. Passport Photograph: Applicants need to bring a passport photograph taken elsewhere, although the County Clerk’s office will also take photos for a $10 fee (cash or check).
  4. Application Fee: Payments must be made via check. The Passport fees start at $130.00 for normal service.

The requirements for obtaining a County Identification Card are similarly stringent:

  1. Proof of U.S. Citizenship: This includes a U.S. Birth Certificate with a raised seal, a valid U.S. Passport, a Certificate of Naturalization, or a Permanent Resident Card.
  2. Proof of Address: Acceptable documents include a valid New Jersey driver’s license, state identification card, or a recent utility bill or bank statement.
  3. Signature Verification: A Social Security card or a debit card will satisfy this requirement.

A Look at E. Junior Maldonado's Career

Junior Maldonado, the current Hudson County Clerk, has an extended history of public service within Hudson County. Before he was elected County Clerk, Maldonado served as a City Council member and later as Council President in Jersey City NJ, the largest city within Hudson County. His transition to county-level politics saw him run for what is now called a Commissioner of Hudson County formerly known as a Hudson County Freeholder, before stepping into his current role as County Clerk. Throughout his career, Maldonado has been known for his commitment to improving accessibility to government services and fostering community engagement. Although he has on occasion made decisions in his role as an election official as part of his job as Hudson County Clerk, that have been controversial and tended to favor incumbents, especially on the selection of ballot positions.

This outreach initiative by the Hudson County Clerk's office reflects Maldonado’s ongoing commitment to serving the community’s needs directly and efficiently. Residents of Harrison and surrounding areas are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to handle their official documentation needs easily.
