Man Arrested for Attempting to Lure Teen in Harrison NJ

The incident took place on the evening of Wednesday, June 19, 2024, on the 300 block of Central Avenue in Harrison NJ.
At approximately 8:25 p.m., police units were dispatched to the scene following a report of a suspect trying to lure a child. The victim, a teenage girl, recounted the harrowing experience to the officers. She explained that she was walking home when a motorbike approached her. The driver asked for her name, to which she responded with a fake name, "Anna," and began running. The man then asked her age, and she replied "14" before continuing to run.
The suspect pursued her and asked if she wanted to ride on his motorbike. The courageous teen ignored him, kept running, and eventually entered her residence as the man drove south on North Frank E. Rodgers Blvd towards South Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard.
The victim's quick thinking and bravery were crucial in ensuring her safety. Upon their arrival, the police found that the suspect had already fled the area. However, the investigation was aided by footage from a Ring camera, which was handed over to the authorities. Additionally, the Town of Harrison's camera system provided further footage that helped track the suspect's movements.
The Harrison Police Department’s Detective Bureau meticulously analyzed the video footage, which revealed that the suspect was employed by a food delivery service. A flyer was disseminated to local law enforcement agencies to assist in identifying and locating the individual.
On the evening of June 20, 2024, the Harrison Detective Bureau conducted a detail operation in the vicinity of Passaic and Central Avenues. This operation led to the successful apprehension of the suspect, who was then charged accordingly.
In a statement, the Harrison Police Department emphasized the importance of community safety and provided advice on what to do if someone feels they are being followed. They urged residents to call 911 immediately if possible. If calling 911 is not feasible, they recommended entering a populated area or establishment and asking for help, or, in extreme situations, yelling for assistance and running away from the suspect. They also advised people to always be aware of their surroundings and, when possible, to be accompanied by a friend or family member.
