The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) is bringing convenience directly to Harrison residents with its Mobile Unit, which will be stationed in front of the Harrison Senior Citizen Center at 221 Harrison Avenue on Monday, September 9, 2024. The unit will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering a range of essential MVC services to the community. The following Monday, September 16, 2024, the MVC Mobile Unit will be available in neighboring Kearny, operating from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Kearny Town Hall, located at 402 Kearny Avenue.

Residents of Harrison and nearby areas will have the opportunity to access important MVC services without the hassle of visiting a physical office. Available services include upgrading to a Real ID (non-renewal), vehicle registration renewals for suspended or expired registrations, and applications for permits and non-driver IDs.

Here’s a breakdown of the services offered by the MVC Mobile Unit:

  • Real ID Upgrade: Transition from a standard license or ID to a Real ID, which will be required for domestic flights starting May 3, 2025.
  • Registration Renewal: Available for vehicles with previously suspended registrations (now cleared) or registrations that have been expired for more than six months.
  • Permits: Applications for auto examination permits (Class D), motorcycle and moped permits, and boat licenses.
  • Replacement Titles and Registrations: Requests for duplicate or replacement vehicle titles and registrations.
  • Non-Driver ID: Applications for non-driver IDs for individuals aged 14 and older, including an option to downgrade from a Class D license.

Appointments are required and can be scheduled through the New Jersey MVC's TeleGov Scheduling Platform. Simply select the type of appointment, choose Harrison or Kearny NJ as the location, and pick an available time slot. This initiative is part of the MVC’s ongoing efforts to make motor vehicle services more accessible and convenient for residents.

To ensure a smooth experience, residents are encouraged to gather the necessary documents for the MVC’s 6 Points of ID requirement. Acceptable documents include a Social Security card or, if unavailable, a 2023 W-2 form, a recent pay stub, or a 1099 form. A full list of acceptable documents can be found on the MVC website or by accessing the 6 Points of Identification Worksheet.

The MVC reminds residents to come prepared with all required documents to avoid delays and make the most of this community-focused service.
