For commuters who frequently travel between Harrison and Journal Square and New York City  a temporary closure of PATH service is set for two consecutive weekends: August 5-6 and August 12-13, 2023. The suspension is due to necessary track replacement work and will last from 11:59 PM on Saturday to 11:59 PM on Sunday of each mentioned weekend. In other words, there is no train service all of Sunday on each of the weekends.

Affected Period:

  • First Weekend: August 5-6, 2023
  • Second Weekend: August 12-13, 2023

Last Trains Before Closure:

  • To Newark: Departing World Trade Center at 12:00 AM Sunday, August 6
  • To World Trade Center: Departing Newark at 11:55 PM Saturday, August 5

First Trains After Closure:

  • To Newark: Departing World Trade Center at 11:55 PM Sunday, August 6
  • To World Trade Center: Departing Newark at 11:55 PM Sunday, August 6

Continued Service:

There will still be PATH train service between Newark and Harrison stations on the New York-bound platforms. For services to New York, customers at Harrison Station should take PATH to Newark Penn Station.

Alternative Options:

During this service suspension, NJ TRANSIT will be cross-honoring customers with several alternative options:

  1. Train Service: Between Newark Penn Station and New York Penn Station.
  2. Shuttle Bus Service: Between Journal Square Station and Newark Penn Station. Follow posted signage to the NJ TRANSIT shuttle bus labeled "PATH Shuttle."

Implications:

The closure of this vital segment of the PATH network will undoubtedly have an impact on the daily commute of many individuals. While necessary for the long-term reliability and safety of the system, passengers should plan their travel accordingly to accommodate the changes.

While this temporary closure may bring inconveniences to daily commuters, it is a crucial step in ensuring the continued efficiency and safety of the rail system. The collaboration between PATH and NJ TRANSIT to provide alternative transportation options demonstrates a concerted effort to minimize the disruption. Passengers are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and plan their journeys with these changes in mind. The renewed track will ultimately offer a more reliable service for all who depend on the PATH system.
