In a crucial community health initiative, University Hospital, in collaboration with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, will deploy a Mobile Mammogram Screening vehicle to Harrison, NJ, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance breast cancer screening accessibility for local women.

The "Mammography in Motion" program, specifically designed to offer privacy and advanced diagnostic technology, will be stationed in front of the Harrison Senior Citizen Center located at 221 Harrison Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments are necessary for this service and can be arranged here.

Maria DeAlmeida, a notable Harrisonian and University Hospital's Cultural Liaison, emphasized the importance of these screenings: “Early detection through regular screenings can significantly increase breast cancer survival rates, and we are here to ensure every woman has that fighting chance.”

About Breast Cancer and Screening

Breast cancer is the second most prevalent cancer among women and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths, following lung cancer. Notably, 75% of those diagnosed have no family history, which underscores the need for regular screenings starting at age 40.

The mobile unit offers state-of-the-art 3D digital mammography and caters to both insured and uninsured women, partnering with the S.A.V.E program to aid those underinsured or uninsured. No prescription is required for this service.
