Small Business Saturday Harrison NJ

As the holiday season kicks into high gear, shoppers are reminded to support local businesses during their holiday shopping. Saturday, November 30, 2024, is Small Business Saturday. The annual event, launched in 2010 by American Express, celebrates and supports small businesses that are the heart of local communities across the nation.

Why Shop Small?

Small businesses are vital to the economy, contributing to job creation, fostering innovation, and providing those with creativity and a hard work effort the opportunity to support their families as well as their community. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses account for nearly half of all economic activity in the country and employ nearly half of the U.S. workforce.

By shopping small, consumers are investing in their neighborhoods. The dollars spent locally help sustain business owners and their families, while also contributing to the community including access to quality food to the community and fostering places where the community can gather and turn to to support local community events and sports activities, not to mention the local property tax base and the state sales tax revenue.

Special Events and Deals

The Town of Harrison’s Administration has not made any effort to support Small Businesses on Small Business Saturday. The Town website does not even mention the day. The Town of Harrison’s Events Calendar does not list Small Business Saturday as an event. The fact that the Town of Harrison’s Administration has forgotten Small Business Saturday nor exerted any effort to try to boost local business, does not mean that you and your neighbors should do the same.  It is important to support local businesses not just on Small Business Saturday but all year round.

A Personal Touch

Small businesses pride themselves on offering personalized customer service and curated products that big-box retailers and e-commerce giants often can’t match. Whether it’s a handcrafted item, a customized service, or simply a friendly chat with a knowledgeable owner, the experience of shopping small is like no other.

How You Can Help

  • Shop in-store: Visit your local boutiques, cafes, bookstores, and other small businesses.
  • Order online: Many small businesses have adapted by offering online shopping options with convenient shipping or local pickup.
  • Spread the word: Share your favorite small business finds on social media using hashtags like #ShopSmall and #SmallBusinessSaturday.
  • Leave reviews: Positive reviews on platforms like Google and Yelp can help boost a small business’s visibility and credibility.

A Season of Giving Back

Small Business Saturday is more than a shopping day—it’s a reminder of the importance of community and connection. This November 30, commit to supporting the small businesses that make your town unique. Whether you’re crossing items off your holiday shopping list or enjoying a meal at a local restaurant, your support can make a big impact.

So, grab a friend, bundle up, and head out to discover the treasures waiting at your local small businesses. Together, let’s make this Small Business Saturday a resounding success for our community.
