Upcoming Town of Harrison July 2024 Meetings: What You Need to Know
Jul 08, 2024The Town of Harrison is gearing up for a series of important meetings this coming week. Here’s a detailed look at what residents can expect, including notable cancellations and changes.
Harrison Redevelopment Canceled Meetings
The Harrison Redevelopment Agency Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 10, 2024, has been canceled. This marks the fourth consecutive cancellation, following the previously canceled meetings on May 29, June 10, and June 23, 2024. The next scheduled meeting for the Harrison Redevelopment Agency is now set for Monday, July 22, 2024, at 1 p.m. This meeting will be held at the Harrison Town Hall.
Upcoming Meetings
Harrison Mayor & Council Meeting
- Date: Tuesday, July 16, 2024
- Time: 6:15 p.m.
- Location: Harrison Town Hall, 3rd Floor
The upcoming Harrison Mayor & Council meeting will be held on the third floor of the Town Hall in the Mayor’s Conference Room. This choice of venue has raised some concerns, as the Council Chambers on the second floor, a much larger space, has not been utilized. The Council Chambers is better suited for social distancing, providing more space for attendees.

The last Mayor & Council meeting was a Special Meeting held on July 1, 2024, via Zoom. Unfortunately, this meeting faced significant issues regarding public participation. Members of the public were muted, the chat function was disabled, and the "raise your hand" feature was also turned off. Consequently, the Town Clerk was unable to recognize any public speakers, as no one could be heard or communicate through writing that they wanted to address the Mayor & Council with a statement or question during the Public Session of the meeting. New Jersey Law requires that the meeting provide for public participation.
Zoning Board of Adjustment Meeting
- Date: Wednesday, July 17, 2024
- Time: 6:30 p.m.
- Location: Harrison Town Hall
Residents should also note the Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting scheduled for next Wednesday. This meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. and will also be held at the Harrison Town Hall.
These meetings are crucial for the town's governance and planning. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate where possible, especially given the challenges faced in recent meetings. It has also been confirmed that YES, the Environmental Protection Agency intends to put a Toxic Dioxin Laden Sludge facility across from the Steelworks, Vermella Harrison, Cobalt Lofts and The Wyldies modern apartment buildings in what is now a residential community.
Stay tuned for more updates on these and other upcoming events in the Town of Harrison.
