The Murals Of Harrison Ave. and Route 280 Eastbound Ramp

Aug 04, 2022

It's Throw Back Thursday. We have a special treat for you.  Do you recall when then-Councilman Anselmo Millan gathered a group of volunteers to clean up the area on Harrison Avenue near the Eastbound Route 280 Entrance Ramp is located and the NJ Transit Boonton Line goes overhead?

Then Councilman Millan thought that the area needed improvement and he organized a group to clean up the area first and then come up with Murals celebrating Harrison and welcoming visitors to Harrison. The Harrison Beautification Committee was formed by high school students Environmental Club and Harrison residents..  Millan and other Volunteers including professional painters and local artists came together for the project. The project also installed a hardscape spelling out Harrison on the train embankment.

The streetscape was removed although you can see remnants of the project and the murals were also painted over and the bulletin boards that had been removed with permission of NJTransit Rail Operations were reinstalled.
