The Peruvian Civic Association of NJ Inc. (PCANJ) will hold its Annual Peruvian Cultural Parade, on Sunday, July 21, 2024. The parade will commence at 12:30 p.m. from the Harrison Town Hall, located at 318 Harrison Avenue, and proceed north along Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. and Kearny Avenue, culminating at the Kearny Town Hall at 402 Kearny Avenue. This vibrant event is expected to draw participants and spectators from across the region, celebrating Peruvian-American heritage and the multicultural fabric of West Hudson, comprised of Harrison, East Newark & Kearny.

In conjunction with the parade, the Peruvian Heritage Picnic Festival will be held at the Frank A. Vincent Marina at 277 Passaic Avenue, Kearny, NJ. Volunteers will be setting up for this exciting festival, which promises a day filled with cultural festivities, music, delicious food, and family-friendly activities. Due to limited parking near the marina, attendees are encouraged to walk or park at a distance and walk to the venue.

Although the primary focus of the parade and picnic is the celebration of Peruvian-American heritage, the PCANJ emphasizes that the parade is a multicultural event. Various cultural groups are welcome to register and join in the march, highlighting the diversity and unity within the community.

Additionally, the PCANJ conducted two Peruvian flag-raising ceremonies in Kearny; the first took place at the Kearny Town Hall on July 1, 2024, and the second was on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Kearny Peruvian Heritage Park located at Peden Terrace and Passaic Avenue. The first Peruvian Flag Raising in Kearny NJ was in 2005.

Solidarity and Community Support

The Peruvian Civic Association of NJ Inc. holds a prominent place among civic organizations in West Hudson. The PCANJ has a history of supporting other community organizations, as evidenced by their participation in the United Irish of West Hudson's St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2022. Despite the frigid weather and the ongoing COVID-19 challenges, PCANJ members marched in solidarity, honoring the longstanding tradition of the United Irish.

In return, the United Irish demonstrated their respect and camaraderie by participating in last year’s Peruvian Parade, enduring scorching temperatures to support their fellow community members. These acts of mutual support and respect underscore the strong bonds between diverse immigrant communities in West Hudson. The United Irish was the first parade to be conducted after the Covid 19 Lockdown was lifted.

Parking Recommendations

Given the limited parking at the festival venue, attendees are encouraged to utilize the side streets between Kearny Avenue and Passaic Avenue for convenient parking options. Parking on Passaic Avenue itself is prohibited. Arriving early and carpooling with friends and family is also advisable to make the most of this incredible celebration without worrying about parking inconveniences.

Your Harrison looks forward to the parade and its vibrant celebration of culture, heritage, and community spirit. Join us on July 21, 2024, for a day of joyous festivities and unity in West Hudson. Do not forget, the Harrison and East Newark  Peruvian Flag Raising is on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10:30 p.m. and 12 noon, respectively.
