Red Bulls Home v. NY City FC Sat. May 13, 2023 Traffic Alert Issued

Soccer fans are eagerly anticipating the highly-anticipated match-up between the New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls soccer teams on Saturday, May 13, 2023. This exciting game is scheduled to take place at the Red Bulls Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, and promises to be a thrilling event for both teams' supporters. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. but there are pregame activities to keep you and your children entertained. Arrive earlier than usual to avoid the traffic.  The Harrison Police Department estimates that attendance at the game will be 22,000 fans.  The Red Bulls Arena's maximum capacity is 25,000 fans.

The New York City FC is a professional soccer team that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS). The team is currently a member of the Eastern Conference and is based in New York City, playing their home games at Yankee Stadium. The club is co-owned by Yankee Global Enterprises (which also owns the New York Yankees) and City Football Group which also owns the English soccer club Manchester City.  New York City FC played its first Eastern Conference MLS game in 2015.  New York City FC’s home court is Yankee Stadium in the Bronx NYC.

The New York Red Bull soccer team started playing in the MLS in 1996 under its former team name of New York / New Jersey MetroStars.  When new ownership took over and the team was rebranded the Red Bulls the New Jersey was dropped from the team’s name even though all its home games are played in Harrison, New Jersey. The New York Red Bulls are also in the Eastern Conference of the MLS.

As of the time of writing, the New York City FC is ranked sixth in the MLS power rankings.  Meanwhile, the New York Red Bull soccer team currently ranked twenty-sixth. New York City FC is very familiar with the Red Bulls Arena (Stadium) because during Covid, their home stadium was unavailable and New York City FC used the Red Bulls Arena as their Home Stadium. Usually, the Red Bulls have a Home field advantage but in this game the New York City fans who live in NYC have a short Path train ride over to the Harrison (NJ) Path Station which is within walking distance from the stadium. This game, therefore, is a toss-up with many saying that New York City FC has the advantage.

Harrison Police Traffic Bulletin

In addition to the excitement of the game itself, residents and commuters should be aware of the impact that the game will have on traffic in the area. The Harrison Police Department has issued a Traffic Bulletin for the game, advising drivers to plan their routes in advance and expect delays on local roads and highways. The Red Bull Arena is easily accessible by car, train, and bus, but the high volume of traffic expected for the game may cause significant delays and congestion.
