In the spirit of giving, The Observer, a local newspaper serving the Town of Harrison and neighboring communities, is teaming up with Kearny PBA No. 21, FMBA Local 18/218, and CS-11 to host a Thanksgiving Food Drive. Their mission: to ensure every family in need has a hearty Thanksgiving meal, complete with turkeys and all the traditional trimmings.

Who’s Involved?

  • Kearny PBA No. 21: The Police Benevolent Association, representing Kearny's dedicated law enforcement officers.
  • FMBA Local 18/218: The Firemen’s Mutual Benevolent Association, representing the brave men and women of the Kearny Fire Department.
  • CS-11: Kearny’s Department of Public Works union, ensuring the town’s infrastructure and public services run smoothly.

What’s Needed?

The organizations are collecting donations of turkeys along with essential Thanksgiving sides, including:

  • Boxes of stuffing mix
  • Boxes of mashed potatoes
  • Cornbread or muffin mixes
  • Dessert mixes

The collected items will be donated to a local food pantry, bringing Thanksgiving joy to families in need.

But the giving doesn’t stop there—these four organizations are also gearing up for Christmas. It’s not too late to contribute, as non-perishable food donations are still being accepted to make the holidays brighter for everyone in the community.

Where to Donate

Residents can drop off their donations at the following locations:

  • Kearny Police Headquarters: 237 Laurel Avenue, Kearny, NJ
  • Kearny Fire Headquarters: 109 Midland Avenue, Kearny, NJ
  • Kearny Department of Public Works: 357 Bergen Avenue, Kearny, NJ
  • The Observer Newspaper Office: 39 Seeley Avenue, Kearny, NJ

A Community United

This collaborative effort highlights the heart of Kearny—a community that comes together in times of need. "No family should go without during the holidays," said a representative of The Observer. "With the help of our local heroes and generous residents, we can make a real difference."
